DOMAINE CHATELAIN PRESS

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 2007 Jean Claude Chatelain Pouilly Fume
Bright gold. Mineral-driven scents of lemon, lime and pear, with a hint of anise. Dry, sharply focused citrus flavors slow a slightly austere character that gives way to deeper orchard fruits with air. The minerality dominates the finish, which lingers with good spiciness but shows a slight hard edge. (Europvin USA Van Nuys CA) 87pts

2004 Jean Claude Chatelain Pouilly Fume
($20) Yellow-gold. Smoky citrus, pear and yellow plum aromas, with soil and mineral accents. Spicy orchard and citrus flavors take on a racy quality with air, tightening up and turning more brisk on the back. Finishes firm and persistent. 87pts

2002 Jean Claude Chatelain Pouilly Fume
($24) Perfumed aromas of chalk and orange blossom. Juicy, leanish and on the hard side, with slightly elevated acids. Nicely intense flavors of lime, talc and grass. 88pts

2005 Jean Claude Chatelain Sancerre Selection
($21) Light gold. Impressively complex scents of pungent yellow apple, pear, curry leaf, cumin and minerals. Deep, earthy and rich in orchard fruit flavor, with gentle spice and herb notes adding interest. The supple finish features gentle acidity and very good length. 89pts

2002 Jean Claude Chatelain Sancerre Selection
($24) Aromas of lemon, licorice and mint, with a light mealy suggestion of chenin. Moderately dense in texture, with nicely concentrated citrus flavors. But some tasters will find this rather uncompromising Sancerre a bit too acid and herbaceous. 88pts
