"Crisis solved!" she says jubilantly. She and others have decided to use a stash of nonvintage Loukatos Mavrodaphne of Patras, a sweet, fruity wine that is reminiscent of a soft port.

"It's Greek wine, it will make the moussaka taste even better," she says. Passing out samples in plastic cups, she raises a cup to co-worker Maria Heimke: "May everything go well, Opa!"
